you see it in articles more and more and the reason is clear, while Microsoft is working hard to earn our respect and starting to listen very hard at what we expect and want, Google is more and more becoming a data monster that is becoming threatening to our privacy

or what to think about this

Electronic Aids in gaming world (ct'd)

Players get the chance to be heroes in World of Warcraft
A deadly virtual plague has broken out in the online game World of Warcraft.
In his death throes Hakkar hits foes with a "corrupted blood" infection that can instantly kill weaker characters.
The infection was only supposed to affect those in the immediate vicinity of Hakkar's corpse but some players found a way to transfer it to other areas of the game by infecting an in-game virtual pet with it.
This pet was then unleashed in the orc capital city of Ogrimmar and proved hugely effective as the Corrupted Blood plague spread from player to player

it is not the first time that at first it looks as if it is a small code, but that after some time it seems to have a huge unforeseen impact (as some diseases in the real world)
the blaster virus was also such a thing, small at the start, huge at a while
even the web is such a thing (that is why you can't control or predict the web)

online gamers not far away from viruses and hacks

You will find numerous tools on the web to make it easier for online gamers to win, to download extra maps or to pay less or nothing but some of these tools are becoming rather dangerous as explained in this online collection of gaming-hacks that refused to insert the tool eudenabler

http://news.planetmayhem.org/story/no-more-eudenabler?PHP...

you should see this in correlation with the fact that most online gamers are surfing in full administrator-full control mode (which is totally unsecure) and that this is an enormous window of opportunity for any malware inserted in such a tool (there are for example few cracks where no spyware is added nowadays)

Some new books about security to read

The Shellcoder’s Handbook is written by a unique author team, consisting of “white hat” corporate security experts and underground hacker-cracker types, who are the most respected contributors to Bugtraq, a vulnerability tracking mailing list. They take you from introductory-level exploitation and exposing vulnerabilities in binaries to advanced content on kernel overflows. In addition, they provide you with advanced techniques to close new security holes that are not yet known to the public but could cause devastating consequences. With all this information,

Rootkits are the ultimate backdoor, giving hackers ongoing and virtually undetectable access to the systems they exploit. Now, two of the world’s leading experts have written the first comprehensive guide to rootkits: what they are, how they work, how to build them, and how to detect them. Rootkit.com’s Greg Hoglund and James Butler created and teach Black Hat’s legendary course in rootkits. In this book, they reveal never-before-told offensive aspects of rootkit technology–learn how attackers can get in and stay in for years, without detection

why do you need P2P - download and upload

the audio-visual industry is a happy warrior, running expensive battles in court-rooms and winning the debate in the legalislative decision circles, sending squads to capture files and servers, but not seeing that the sharing is just happening elsewhere.

Servers like megaupload.com, rapidshare.de and numerous others are being used between people to share things. Ok the damage is much less because you can't so easily find the files and yes the administrators take out some files from time to time, but the enormity and popularity of these servers show otherwise.

wikipedia becomes wikistupedia

http://blogs.skynet.be/index.html?l1=communication&l2...

http://macbros.dnsalias.com/blog/wikipedia-attacked-by-na...
letting Nazis call Wiesenthal a homosexual looking for black men
is just disgusting and tasteless

it is stupid to think that all information is equal and all opinions and rumors have the same truth and value, the web won't change that

even more if you know that wikipedia is becoming one of the most used information tools by schools and teachers, it is totally irresponsable to do nothing. Maybe someone should sue them for non-assistance to the killing of the 'good name' and 'reputation' without any foundation.
